Day 2 Morning Session - #NZCIO

Day 2 kicked off with some exciting announcement for the NZ high tech sector with a group of students heading over to the Silicon Valley to visit and experience some of the biggest names in hitech.

Exciting news; NZ needs more innovation programs like this to grow our talent base and continue to grow NZs future digital exports.

Barbara Chapman - CEO of ASB - led a conversation on leadership, strategy and the evolving retail banking landscape. Offering some insights into how CEOs think about technology as well as a great photo tour through some of the most obscure and remote places in Canada.

Barbara questioned whether we are adaptive and responsive enough as a country in the global market place or whether we run the risk of becoming superfluous in the coming years. We need to challenge ourselves more and take more calculated risks - figuring out how we compete with global players. Barbara challenged CIOs to innovate and play a leadership role in ensure their businesses adapt and thrive. Technology can have a profound impact on industries and markets and CEOs and CIOs have the responsibility to triage that impact to achieve the best possible results.

It’s fantastic to hear from a CEO who understands the critical role technology plays in growing and adapting a modern organisation - embracing the innovation opportunities being presented on a daily basis.
