Failing in 2013

I’m not a believer in new years’ resolutions - they seldom last into February in my experience - but I do think the turn of the year is a good time to reflect on the year that has been and learn from it.

There’s a reasonably long list of things I’d like to do different this year but the one that keeps popping up is that in 2012 is that I didn’t fail enough. That might sound like strange things to say but in my book failure is an excellent indicator of doing things differently and doing different things - neither of which I think I did enough of in 2012.

In a nutshell, I think I played things too safe.

In 2013, I need to critically look at the problems and decisions that come my way and really challenge myself to see and do things differently (if that’s the appropriate course of action). One of the things I intend to do is to publicly out my failures (here on my blog) - unpack and analyse them and use them a a sort of ‘failure journal’ from which I can get new learnings. Hopefully they prove useful for others too.
