CIO session on mobile strategy
The list of drivers for mobility is ever lengthening. Organizations need clear strategies to leverage the opportunities at a corporate level rather than in a project by project manner.
Three key elements to developing mobile strategy are:
1. Understand demand - What do the customers want to do and how?
2. Create supply - How will we meet the needs of the users in a consistent and effective manner?
3.Control and manage risk- Has to be at corporate level, not individual projects, to ensure trade offs are fully understood and accepted. Balance functionality with risks.
We need to ensure we have some clear mobile strategies and manage the control & risk dimension carefully. Some folks I’ve talked to mentioned they are doing BYOD but are still nervous about the security and reputational issues. Most recognize that things are OK until the first incident occurs. They are working hard to close down the ‘cross fingers’ approach through Mobile Device Management.
