What makes a successful transformation team?
Many organisations are undergoing technology-enabled business transformations. Transformation is a complex topic and it can be easy for organisations to lose the DNA of what has worked for them to date in the process of gearing up for tomorrow. It’s an area I have a lot of experience in, having run/worked with technology incubators and helping some global organisations transform their business into the Digital Age.
An ex-colleague contacted me earlier in the week and asked whether I could identify any specific characteristics or traits I look for when assembling a transformation team. The question stuck with me for a few days and I finally decided to pull together a list, based on my experience of the ingredients needed for transformation.
So here goes, you need a team that is:
- Willing to challenge everything
- Adaptive and evidence (data) driven
- Experienced across different industries & cultures
- Obsessed with customers
- Passionate about technology and how it can change the world
- Has a lot of Intellectual horsepower and curiosity
- Accepts change as the new normal
- Is self aware with high Emotional Quotient
- Pragmatic – course correcting as you go
- Thick skinned to weather naysayers
